POSITION PURPOSE

The Endpoint Systems Administrator position plays a key role in designing, implementing, administering, and supporting desktop computer systems across the Enterprise. This position collaborates with other IT members to provide an information technology environment that is consistent with the goals of Whitman College and meets the diverse needs of faculty, staff, and students.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Administration and maintenance of endpoint management systems for Windows and Apple operating systems, including building, testing and deploying desktop operating systems; deploying and monitoring software updates and patch management; software packaging and installation for centralized deployment; scripting for process automation.
  • Administration, documentation and technical support of Active Directory and group policy creation and maintenance applicable to all desktops across the Enterprise. Ensure that group policies apply appropriately in order to implement specific configurations. Create and maintain technical documentation and train staff in desktop deployment and administrative tools and processes.
  • Work closely with the Information Security Officer to administer security on desktop systems using proactive monitoring of software and policy tools for security issues and compliance. Administer and maintain applications (e.g., MBAM, PDQ Deploy, and Group Policies).
  • Administration and support of inventory tracking and ticketing system. Maintain content consistency and perform audits of computer systems to ensure accuracy of information and security of assets. Develop policies and procedures as needed.
  • Actively work with and mentor the backup Endpoint Systems Administrators.
  • Provision and deprovision of College assets.
  • Perform service calls and/or troubleshoot desktop issues in the field as needed.
  • Perform other essential duties and implementation of projects as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Must be able to explain and/or demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Specifically,
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:
    • Advanced operation of Windows computers and other peripheral devices.
    • Advance operation of Apple computers and peripheral devices.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Group Policy and Active Directory.
    • Working knowledge of Windows server administration, including SQL, IIS, MBAM, SCCM, EntraID (Azure), InTune, and Windows server OS.
    • Working knowledge of Apple administration using JAMF Pro or similar system.
    • Consulting with users on various software, hardware, and network problems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships with a variety of campus constituencies.
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills.
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and logical problem solving.
  • Self-directed, independent, and self-motivated.

  • Willingness to work on evenings and weekends.
  • An ability to perform manual labor, including moving items weighing up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Scripting within Powershell or similar system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A bachelor's degree, OR an associate's degree in a relevant field, OR combination of education and experience in a relevant field.
  • 2+ years of experience in Microsoft Server administration, including SCCM, Active Directory, EntraID (Azure), InTune, and Group Policy.
  • Experience using an IT ticketing and inventory system
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience in JAMF Pro and macOS administration.
  • Microsoft Certifications, or other industry certifications related to endpoint management.
  • Proficiency with endpoint management tools, query writing, scripting, application administration.
