JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Controls Engineer will lead the design, development, and product optimization of off-road vehicle systems for underground mining equipment. The position involves working in a dynamic design environment co-located with our manufacturing plant, requiring the ability to integrate both theoretical knowledge and practical experience to produce products for mining vehicle applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead in machine control program development process at various stages such as development of functional requirements, test cases, validation at test bench and final product testing, utilizing tools such as Danfoss Plus+1 and Jira
  • Apply knowledge and experience of fluid power systems towards the design of mobile hydraulics for mining applications
  • Use knowledge and best practices of industrial and mobile machinery, good engineering practices, mathematic and physical sciences to complete designs
  • Prepare detailed designs, schematics, computer aided 3D models, and assembly drawings from concept discussions, reference designs, or marked up drawings as well as marking up drawings for other engineering personnel to follow
  • Lead the decision making of Engineering Change Requests and Notices by independently developing design direction, interfacing with other departments or functional groups as needed, and releasing designs to provide appropriate solutions
  • Use ERP software to create or modify Bills of Material (parts, assemblies, modules, or full trucks) as required for designs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues and make other improvements with product designs as necessary
  • Manage and lead multiple projects while providing frequent oral/written communication to supervisor, project subordinates and related departments, to drive completion of each task in a timely fashion
  • Consult with supervisor, suppliers, engineering specialists and other departments to complete specifications, calculations, analysis and material/component selection
  • Use reasonable foresight to identify manufacturing, vehicle assembly, operation, and maintenance risks as part of the design process
  • Lead, train, and mentor other engineers and technical staff
  • Other job duties and assignments as directed
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related Engineering field from an accredited university
  • Programming experience with mobile machinery (Danfoss PLUS+1, Parker IQAN, or equivalent)
  • Experience with mobile hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Minimum seven years' experience as an engineer in applicable field
SKILLS, TALENTS AND/OR CHARACTERISTICS
  • Strong knowledge in the design of vehicle systems - electrical, hydraulic, and controls
  • Programming (Danfoss PLUS+1, Parker IQAN, or equivalent)
  • Ability to select, apply and develop appropriate Engineering tools and concepts in the design / development of product subsystems or full vehicle systems
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, materials and other physical sciences to complete designs
  • Strong problem solver to resolve and troubleshoot issues as well as pro-actively apply problem solving and analysis tools to ensure designs are robust
