Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Structural Design Engineer to provide crucial technical expertise, administrative support, and leadership. This role has a specific focus area and represents the engineering discipline to ensure technical accuracy across all project phases. As a lead engineer, you will be responsible for managing complex engineering tasks and supporting project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an Area Lead under the general guidance of the Discipline Lead Engineer, supervising and mentoring engineers and designers.
- Independently analyze and recommend technical solutions to complex problems in line with project requirements.
- Develop and review project specifications and design criteria to meet engineering standards.
- Perform and verify engineering calculations, specify materials and systems, and resolve advanced technical challenges.
- Coordinate with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients to address technical issues effectively.
- Execute tasks in compliance with the Project Quality Plan and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to the project's scope, budget, and schedule baselines.
- Prepare and review estimates, schedules, and progress reports, including staffing forecasts and effort-hour projections.
- Oversee material key quantities, providing analyses and forecasts to control and report on project metrics.
- Support equipment and material procurement activities, including defining scopes of work, evaluating technical bids, and reviewing vendor submittals.
- Assist with construction administration, including responding to construction RFIs and field changes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Proficiency in federal, state, and local codes and standards, including Department of Energy orders.
- Strong communication skills for interactions with project management, team members, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Advanced technical knowledge necessary to fulfill job requirements.
- In-depth understanding of discipline codes and standards.
- Ability to work with precision and effectively manage time.
- Proficient in word processing, email, spreadsheets, and electronic presentations.
- Extensive experience in providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services on large-scale industrial projects.
- Skilled in using engineering analysis, 3D modeling, and 2D CADD tools in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Advanced knowledge in:
- Conducting both manual and computer calculations for foundations, concrete, and steel structures.
- Structural design software, such as STAAD, STAADPro, and RISA3D.
- Mathcad for complex engineering calculations.
- Structural analysis, including wind and seismic loading considerations.
- Dynamic analysis and design techniques.
- Computer modeling and structural analysis.
- Extensive knowledge of commercial material availability and costs.
- Experience designing systems, structures, and components for nuclear facilities under ASME NQA-1 standards.
- Proven track record in managing and leading large-scale projects.
- Proficiency in project setup, control-level schedule development, progress reporting, and project closeout.
- Practical, hands-on field experience.
- EPC project experience in industries including:
- U.S. Department of Energy or other federal agencies.
- Nuclear facilities under a quality assurance program.
- Manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or biotechnology.
- Skilled in STAADPro and Mathcad software.
