We are seeking a highly driven, dynamic, motivated Commercial Construction Finish Carpenter to join our dynamic team in Columbus, Ohio.
The Carpenter role constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, utilizing carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building codes. The primary focus of this role is to be proficient with finish work/carpentry, and installation of doors and hardware. Looking for a specialist with hardware.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to the type of material required. Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on the basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for carpentry trade.
- Will need a keen eye and attention for detail.
- Prepare layout, using rule, framing square, and calipers.
- Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes.
- Assembles cut and shaped materials and fasten them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
- Erects framework for structures and lays sub-flooring.
- Build stairs and lays out and be able to install partitions and cabinetwork.
- Applies shock absorbing, sound deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
- Responsible for production and quality of trim metal studs, drywall, and acoustic ceilings.
- Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish all hardware.
- Installs door and window bucks in designated positions in building framework, and braces them with boards, nailed to framework.
- Manage small special projects which can vary in size and scope.
- Will need to be able to communicate well and trouble shoot problems.
- High school diploma or GED; alternatively, 4-6 years of relevant carpentry experience and/or training. Ability to read and interpret safety rules and technical manuals.
- Basic math skills are essential.
- Capable of following instructions provided in written, verbal, or diagrammatic form with common sense understanding.
- OSHA 10-hour certification.
- Certification in operating aerial lifts.
- Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.
- Ability to solve mathematical problems quickly and accurately.
- Blueprint reading skills.
- PPE and carpentry trade tools. Demonstrate that you are safety conscious and follow established regulations.
- Must be willing to travel to various jobs in the Columbus area and will be home every night.
- Flexibility to work in other trades as needed.
- Possess all tools listed on the Ferguson Construction tool list to advance to the next level.
- Availability for overtime and weekend work as needed.
- Perform general maintenance and cleanup tasks.
- Attend relevant training courses when requested to progress to the next level.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and maintain a professional attitude.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy materials and equipment in tight spaces, typically up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Stamina to work in physically demanding conditions, including standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods.
- Capability to operate construction machinery and tools, including but not limited to power tools, scaffolding, chisels, table saws and ladders.
- Dexterity to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, such as measuring, cutting, and assembling materials.
- Endurance to work in various environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and adverse weather, while adhering to safety protocols.
- Conduct finishing touches to rough carpentry.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Will be dependent on the size and severity of the job.
