The Director of Development is a driving force behind all fundraising efforts. They oversee the development, coordination, and implementation of individual and major donor fundraising and stewardship initiatives, a corporate partnership program, a volunteer/mentor engagement program, and special events of Good Shepherd Services. The Director plays a key role in collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Development Officer, Executive Team, and VPs across the agency to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy to help ensure the financial sustainability of the organization and successs of its programs and services. The Director will manage and provide guidance to a team of fundraising professionals responsible for individual, corporate, event, volunteer/mentorship activities.

Location: 305 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10010
Hours: 35 hours, exempt
Salary: $125,000/Yr. to $139,000/Yr.

Major Duties:
Fundraising and External Relations
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy and tactics that supports the priorities, vision, and mission of Good Shepherd's and broadens individual and corporate donor bases
- Design and implement an annual fundraising plan for individual donors at all levels, including strategy, tactics and metrics for success
- Support Executive Team and Board of Directors on all donor management and relations efforts
- Develop, manage, and maintain an active portfolio of individual donors and prospects
- Spearhead the development and implementation of an expanded individual giving and major donor program to sustain and grow the existing portfolio of major gifts, developing a strategy to ensure organizational sustainability that includes identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors add metrics
- Create and execute bespoke cultivation and stewardship opportunities for individual and corporate donors
- Develop comprehensive donor communications strategy for solicitation and stewardship purposes
- Develop compelling written and presentation materials for donor audiences to bolster fundraising efforts
- Oversee the growth and development of the corporate engagement program that drives revenue, engagement, and in-kind support
- In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, oversee the production of the agency's annual fundraising events
- Support Board of Directors in their personal fundraising efforts
- Prepare and support the Executive Team staff and Board as needed in all aspects of donor relations and gift management, including presentations, proposals, reporting, stewardship, etc.
- In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, set budget and goals for the department, developing a strategy to meet objectives and pivot strategy when needed.
- Manage internal reporting process to assess development progress, analyze performance indicators and campaign effectiveness, and measure progress toward annual fundraising goals
- Provide coaching and feedback from strengths-based perspective to enhance performance and ensure accountability
- Be a visible and engaged organizational leader beyond the Development Division to build trust and relationships across the agency
- Lead and manage Good Shepherd Services young professional network
- Lead donor research and prospecting efforts
- Work with External Relations and Fiscal departments to ensure development revenue is appropriately allocated and reconciled
- Manage External Relations staff responsible for individual and major gifts, corporate engagement, volunteer and mentor management, special events, and in-kind donations.
- Ensure best practices by developing effective capturing of relevant donor, prospect, and engagement information in SalesForce.
- Work with Development and Fiscal Division staff to accurately account for all philanthropic revenue and ensure a high level of data integrity
- Work with Database manager to analyze donor behavior to make data-informed recommendations for improving fundraising performance and effectiveness
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work with Chief Development Officer to prepare reports for the CEO and Board of Directors to ensure fundraising strategy remains on track and recalibrate where needed
- Bachelor's degree required
- 8+ years of professional fundraising experience with significant emphasis on individual and major giving, including experience developing relationships, designing, and executing fundraising and high-touch stewardship strategies for individual donors achieving results in a complex, mission-driven organization
- Demonstrated success in supporting senior leaders in cultivating, soliciting, and closing philanthropic gifts in the range of 5- to 7-figures
- Experience building out individual giving programs within non-profit agencies required
- Experience building and executing annual giving and mid-level donor programs
- Experience in the design, strategy, and execution of successful fundraising events
- Experience in developing and/or maintaining strong corporate relationships
- Strong people skills with intellectual depth, entrepreneurial drive, maturity, self-confidence, interpersonal skills, and warmth to build and maintain relationships with people at all levels of the agency across a diverse range of backgrounds.
- Supervisory experience required; experience supervising, coaching, and training staff emphasized.
- Must be self-motivated, detail, and deadline oriented.
- Excellent writing, organizational, planning, managerial, and computer skills are required.
- Proficiency with online fundraising/database systems. Salesforce, Classy preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising software.
- Sense of humor, humility, and warmth
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
