Position description

Junior Specialist- Kastner Lab

The Kastner Lab at the University of California, San Francisco is looking for a Junior Specialist to begin work in the Summer of 2024. This is a 60% time paid position, during which the technician will work directly with the PI and other technicians performing large scale behavior in rats and surgical manipulations of the brain. The scientific goal of the project is to develop an understanding of the ways in which the brain supports individual behavior and goes awry in the context of diseases such as autism spectrum disorder.

Responsibilities include:

  • Handling and behavioral training of rats
  • Surgery on rats
  • Data Analysis

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, bioengineering or a related field by the start date
  • Experience handling and perfusing rats

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Computer programming experience (python or equivalent)
