Daikin Applied is seeking a level II or level III Design Engineer. The Design Engineer will lead the development of primary systems and sub-systems of commercial HVAC equipment. The candidate will collaborate with cross-functional team members, driving toward releasing innovative HVAC products. Location: Staunton, VA - Hybrid
What you will do:
- Develop electro-mechanical products of significant complexity, supporting program quality, cost, and schedule
- Develop test plans and perform testing of components, sub-systems, and total systems, supporting performance, reliability, and industry certification
- Work cross-functionally with groups such as design, test, manufacturing, sales, and supply chain to ensure product design meets business needs
- Drive the execution of the new product development phase-gate process, demonstrating appropriate design maturity and growth across various milestones
- Have technical ownership of sub-system or system designs

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 2 years of related experience
- Understanding of mechanical concepts such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, structures, materials
- Hands-on experience testing electro-mechanical equipment
- Capabilities with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) tools
- Knowledge of cross-functional groups such as Controls, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Design, Quality, etc.
- Understanding of New Product Development processes
- Knowledge of Lean principles
- Project management capabilities with the ability to estimate work tasks and support project planning activities
- Knowledge of engineering tools and analysis methods such as DOE, DFMEA, DVP&R

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3 years of related work experience
- Experience designing or developing in SolidWorks

The typical annual base salary for a level II position ranges from $72,000-$120,000 in Virginia. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade in which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
