Tesla is seeking a highly motivated hands-on Mechanical Engineer for a position in the Energy Manufacturing Engineering group as part of the "machine that builds the machine". The role is focused on working within a cross functional team to develop high quality, efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce products for Tesla Energy.

Responsibilities
- Develop manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype builds
- Determine and procure equipment that is necessary for all manufacturing processes used to build the product
- Conceptual equipment development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
- Work with equipment integrators to design and manufacture equipment and fixtures for medium to high-volume production
- Determine layout of production workstations for product flow, ergonomics, and efficiency
- Provide DFM (design for manufacturability) input to design team for process and yield improvements
- Support building, debugging, validation and equipment duplication efforts, and fine-tune equipment for release to production
- Conduct detailed testing and validation of installed machinery to ensure robustness and quality
- Perform on-site and off-site acceptance testing (SAT/FAT) of equipment
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
- 2+ years of experience as Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automation Engineer with focus in automation, machine design, robotics, and product development
- Experience using 2D CAD tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)
- Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production
- Experience with conveyance, transducer-based fastening systems, robotic systems (prefer Fanuc)
- Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
- Experience providing Design for Manufacturability and Automation
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field, or equivalent experience
