Responsibilities:

• Adhere to professional and ethical standards, including confidentiality and impartiality.
• Prepare for specific classroom assignments by understanding the subject material and students' needs.
• Attend classes, meetings, and events with deaf or hard-of-hearing students to ensure accessible communication.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to improve skills and stay updated on best practices in educational interpreting.
• Provide real-time interpretation and transliteration services using American Sign Language (ASL) and other specialized modes of communication.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and special education staff to support the educational, social, and emotional needs of students.

Requirements

• Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Experience working as an interpreter in an educational setting is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of the cultural and linguistic needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented educational environment.
• Certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent professional certification.
• Associate's degree or higher in Sign Language Interpretation or related field; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
