The purpose of the full-time Environmental Services Assistant is to perform cleaning tasks and laundry/linen functions in assigned areas at Pleasant View Nursing Home.

Maintains the confidentiality of resident health care information.
Upholds Resident Rights
Reports allegations of resident abuse or neglect immediately to the Administrator. Safe guards the resident from harm.
Additional Tasks and Responsibilities
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
Qualifications
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Ability to read and comprehend general operating manuals and guidelines. Previous housekeeping experience in a long-term care facility preferred, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Description/Summary
The purpose of the full-time Environmental Services Assistant is to perform cleaning tasks and laundry/linen functions in assigned areas at Pleasant View Nursing Home.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop floors. Place "wet floor" warning signs.
- Empty waste baskets and recycling baskets.
- Scour toilets, sinks, and bathing facilities.
- May vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas as needed.
- May operate various mechanized floor-cleaning machines.
- May strip floors, wash windows, and mirrors.
- May assist unloading cleaning supplies and place in storage.
- May assist moving furniture when requested.
- Wash units as requested.
- Daily stocking of linen storage areas on nursing units.
- Maintain statistics necessary to facilitate ordering of appropriate amounts of linens. Place linen orders with laundry service as required.
- Communicate with laundry service regarding services, deliveries, etc. when necessary.
- Maintain linen storage areas in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
- Mark resident's personal clothing items as necessary.
- Assist Social Services staff with recommending clothing needs for residents at times. May assist in procuring clothing for residents when needed.
- Repair facility items such as drapes and table clothes.
- Repair and mend residents' personal clothing as necessary.
- May be assigned other duties by supervisor as necessary to ensure adequacy of services to residents.

- Assist residents when requested by nursing staff in emergency situations.
- May water houseplants
- Direct visitors.
- Assist nursing staff with water pitchers for residents as needed.
- Assist Life Enrichment staff as needed.
Qualifications

- Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure and sort data and information, to prescribed standards.
- Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests.
- Ability to utilize reference data and information such as repair orders, progress reports, requisition sheets, production orders, operating instructions, schedules, and records.
- Ability to communicate with facility personnel, residents, and visitors.
- Ability to count, add, subtract, and measure.
- Ability to use functional reasoning development in performing of semi-routine functions involving standardized work with some choice of action.
- Ability to apply situational reasoning by exercising judgment, decisiveness, and creativity within repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment and machinery requiring simple, periodic adjustments such as vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms, automatic floor machines. Ability to move and guide material using simple tools.
- Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing coordinated movements such as tightening and inserting.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort in moderate to light work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Ability to climb and have good balance.
- Ability to stand for several hours at one time and/or walk about the building for extended lengths of time in an eight hour period.
- Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, forms, sounds, and odors associated with objects, materials, and ingredients.
- In regards to environment factors work under moderately safe and comfortable conditions with potential factors such as odors, smoke, potential violence, noise, disease.
