Job Title: Electrician Journeyman Lead

Location: Chabelley, Djibouti

**Must be a US Citizen**

Summary:

The Electrician Journeyman Lead oversees the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment while ensuring compliance with local codes and safety standards. This role involves planning and supervising electrical projects, leading a team of electricians, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring quality work. The Journeyman Lead is responsible for reading blueprints, installing wiring and fixtures, testing systems, and providing guidance to crew members to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan layout, install, and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials and ensure future maintenance accessibility.
  • Follow specifications and local electrical codes to avoid unsightly, hazardous, or unreliable wiring.
  • Prepare sketches showing wiring and equipment locations or follow diagrams and blueprints.
  • Ensure concealed wiring is installed before completing walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using tools such as hacksaws, pipe threaders, and conduit benders.
  • Pull wiring through conduit, assisted by electrician helpers.
  • Splice wires by stripping insulation, twisting, or soldering wires, and applying tape or terminal caps according to codes and standards.
  • Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools.
  • Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, fastening components with screws or bolts using hand tools and power tools.
  • Connect power cables and ground leads to equipment and electrical utilization devices, including motors, HVAC units, and more.
  • Test circuit continuity to ensure electrical compatibility and component safety using instruments such as ohmmeters, batteries and buzzers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Observe functioning of installed systems or equipment to detect hazards, adjustments, relocation, or replacement needs.
  • Repair faulty equipment or systems as required.
  • May provide data to Automated Information Systems (AIS).

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four (4) to seven (7) years of related experience.
  • Requires the job knowledge, skill level, and physical ability necessary to perform assigned job functions.
  • Journeyman license/certificate or equivalent is required.

Journeyman Lead Responsibilities:

  • Possess all journey-level skills with verifiable experience and/or accepted certifications, licenses, or degrees.
  • Serve as the most experienced, highest-skilled professional in the field.
  • Provide supervision for a specific crew when necessary.
  • Work with little or no supervision.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and codes.
  • Expertise in using tools for wiring, testing, and installation.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise a team when needed.
