As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will support our Electrothermal Engineering team in a mixed design and production environment, delivering premier space flight projects. This role allows you to create and manage flight-critical hardware designs from initial concept to production. Busek researches, develops, and produces technologies for challenging space missions, ranging from small spacecraft in low-earth orbit to CubeSats and probes exploring the moon and beyond. Our talented staff specialize in in-space propulsion, space-borne sensors, materials science, and high-fidelity electronic design. Busek's achievements include the first US Hall Effect Thruster in space, the first Micro-PPT Thrusters, and the first flight Electrospray Thrusters. We deliver both high-volume and custom, low-volume production for in-space propulsion components and systems, alongside pioneering novel technologies.Responsibilities
  • Design flight-critical hardware for space propulsion systems.
  • Present and defend design choices and trade-offs to meet mission and project requirements.
  • Perform thermal modeling and analysis to ensure optimal system performance under extreme conditions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and manufacturers across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Communicate with outside vendors for part fabrication and procurement.
  • Create high-quality engineering drawings and documentation to support production and testing.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, project requirements, and reliability objectives.
  • Produce and maintain essential documentation for spaceflight hardware.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience in fabrication, assembly, or testing of mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM (or similar revision control systems).
  • Strong working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing processes such as precision welding, brazing, plating, heat treating, or finishing.
  • Background in thermal modeling and simulation.
  • FEA experience, preferably with ANSYS Mechanical.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB for data analysis and simulation.
