Why does the job exist?
Incumbent will participate in standard electrical duties while receiving training in more complex areas of installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems.
How does it get done?
Incumbent will assist a licensed electrician in maintaining all electrical equipment, grease bearings/oil bushings on electrical motors, clean contactors (relays used for switching electrical circuits on/off), check electrical panels for loose connections on terminals, check lighting, V-belts on air handling units, and heating systems. Check/clean fire alarm pull stations, smoke detectors, magnetic fire doors, horns, and bells. Check/clean evaporator/condenser coils, replace batteries. Check automatic transfer switches, elevators and other related electrical duties. Report all work order activities through the use of an iPad and upload information to software. Acquire Journeyman Electrician license after 4 years of apprenticeship.

Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidate will have:
Experience and/or knowledge of electrical systems;
Experience with automatic transfer switches/generators;
Experience with air handling units/electrical panels;
Experience with replacing fluorescent tubes/light bulbs and ballasts.
Minimum Qualification
Three (3) months of electrical experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field andor direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) months may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions
This position will perform work at the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute, both indoors and outdoors. Some standing walking, stooping, bending and lifting a minimum of one hundred (1 OD) pounds with assistance may be required. Effective 01/01/2015, New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute became a 100% Tobacco Free/ E-Cigarette Free Campus. As such, no tobacco, tobacco products or E-cigarette products are permitted on any part of the campus. Department is Plant Technology. Shift is 8:00 am to 5 pm.
