Description

Maintains and inputs data into several Hobbs Police Department and New Mexico Public Safety data bases. This includes completing multiple monthly reports for the division to ensure training is being tracked and documented correctly.

Essential Duties

  • Maintains officer training files and collects and uploads training certifications into officer files. Responsible for monthly training calendars and ensures department bulletin boards are current with upcoming training notifications.
  • Assists the Training Sergeant with scheduling annual and biennium training of police department personnel including the police academy recruits. Assists the training sergeant with schedules and stays up to date on training issues.
  • Assists the Training Sergeant with scheduling the firing ranges and range activities as needed. Works closely with the Community Relations Sergeant on aspects of training new employees.
  • Assists Training Sergeant with new hire application packets, registration of new hires into multiple data bases. Also attends new hiring processes such as written and physical fitness testing.
  • Assists with ordering equipment for departmental personnel. Assist training Sergeant to ensure the scheduling of mandatory range cleaning, target repairs, and opening outdoor facility for outside agencies. Coordinates with outside agencies for scheduling of outdoor/ indoor range access.
  • Completes grant writing projects and gathers training documents for IPRA related requests.
  • Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High school graduate or GED equivalent required. Two (2) years of compensated office experience required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Ability to use Microsoft word and excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to follow and give verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and problems and exercise sound judgment when making departmental decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and supervisors.
  • Must possess organizational skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions.

The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places, and with explosives and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or extreme could, extreme heat, and some vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The City of Hobbs will provide 80% to 90% Heath Insurance Coverage from Single to Family coverage.
  • Employees are eligible for 100% short-term disability coverage provided by the City of Hobbs.
  • Employer PERA contributions 14.8% for general, 28.775% for HPD, 30.9% for HFD.
  • CDL pay - $6,000 per year (if applicable).
  • PTO accruals start at 12 hours per month (144 hours per year) and progressively increase based on years of service to 20 hours per month (240 hours per year) at year 21.
  • Bilingual Pay - $1,500 dollar incentive per year upon completion of yearly proficiency test.
  • Education Incentive - ($1,000, $4,000, $6,000 dollars - Associates, Bachelor's, Masters; degree must be relevant to position and above the current minimum requirements of the held position).
  • Longevity Pay - Begins at the completion of 10 years of service. Gradually increased.
  • Retention Incentive - $600 incentive yearly with years 1-9 of completed service
  • 13 Paid Holidays.
  • Bereavement Leave - 5 days per calendar year per personnel rules guidelines.
  • Military Leave - (120 hours per year for general, 183.75 per year for HPD, 360 hours per year for HFD).
