About the opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consulting is currently seeking a
Senior or Principal Ecosystem Restoration Engineer
with a passion for river restoration, geomorphology, nature-based resiliency, and surface water quality. We are looking for an experienced engineer who can contribute to the growth of our surface water and ecological restoration practice in Texas, as well as support SWCA's hydraulic modeling and ecological restoration projects throughout the U.S. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in nature-based stormwater design, flood resiliency, stream, wetland, and tidal marsh restoration and coastal/living shoreline design projects, and be capable of teaching applied hydraulics, hydrology, and geomorphology to others. Potential Positions Available under this Requisition: Senior Ecosystem Restoration Engineer : Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of experience. Principal Ecosystem Restoration Engineer : Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of experience. This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. The role is based in Houston, TX, offering a hybrid work arrangement. For highly qualified candidates, remote work will also be considered. The position requires occasional travel to various field sites across the country, with a primary focus on sites in Texas and the Southeast.
What you will accomplish
* Conduct the design, reporting, and development of construction plans for stormwater, flood resiliency, river restoration, wetland restoration, and shoreline stabilization projects and supervise work performed by others. * Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously, keeping projects on schedule and within budget. * Manage and perform water resources assessments and analysis including watershed hydrology, open-channel hydraulics, river and floodplain modelling, and stormwater management. * Supervise field work to assess existing site conditions, assess reference reach sites, and perform geomorphic surveys. * Conduct engineering analyses to support the development of restoration designs and provide senior review of analyses performed by others. * Write clear and concise technical documentation of engineering analyses and provide senior review of documentation developed by others. * Represent SWCA and continue your professional development at industry conferences. * Work independently in a fast-paced environment; work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. * Mentor staff engineers in surface water design within the Autodesk Civil 3D platform.
Experience and qualifications for success
A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Texas. A minimum of 10 years of professional engineering experience. Demonstrated success in designing and executing surface water design, flood mitigation or stream restoration design. Proficiency in HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS software, showcasing strong technical expertise. AutoCAD Civil 3D, reflecting your ability to deliver innovative engineering solutions. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. 12 years of professional engineering experience.
