Job Description
KSTS is currently seeking a Multi-Media Journalist/Content Producer who will work closely with assignment editors, reporters, and anchors to produce, write, edit, and gather content on all KSTS platforms, both linear and digital, including FAST in Spanish. This is a hybrid position. As a Multi-Media Journalist, this individual will be responsible for the on-air delivery of daily newscasts. The ideal candidate will also shoot, write & edit news stories for all our platforms, including broadcast, web, social media, and OTT. As a Content Producer, they will be responsible for writing, editing, and building graphics for all platforms.
Responsibilities
Must be knowledgeable on daily news events, aware of past events, and understand news in the Northern & Central California market. Must speak, write, and read Spanish. The ideal candidate is expected to be a key communicator in the newsroom, talking with each person who will participate or provide content for that newscast. Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills that allow for collaboration with managers, the digital team, and the assignment desk. Must understand the station's mission and priorities. As Multi-Media Journalist: Conduct research to write and present stories that attract viewer interest and shape the news narrative. Shoot, write & edit news stories for the station’s newscasts, recorded programs, and/or other live station broadcasts. Coordinate, organize, and conduct interviews. Quickly adjust to late changes and be aggressive in breaking news coverage. Present a completed story with fair, accurate and community-relevant content. Generate ideas and report breaking news either in the studio or on location. Actively involved in sharing news content on Social Media platforms. Make appearances before social and civic groups and at schools and colleges on behalf of the station. As Content Producer: Write and produce stories, headlines, and news updates for broadcast and all digital platforms, including OTT. Stay on top of the latest graphic tools to enhance and showcase stories visually. Write news scripts and edit video clips. Produce under heavy deadline pressure without compromising credibility. Conceptualize, write, and edit stories in different formats (VO, VO/SOT & PKG). Coordinate script and storyline with correct video sources and graphics. Ensure accuracy and correct spelling in graphics and banners. Log news and inform the content producer of available material that can be used in the newscast. Produce content for digital platforms in Spanish. Qualifications
Minimum 2 years’ experience in newsgathering and/or production. Minimum 2 years’ experience writing, producing and desktop editing systems. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States. Experience line-producing newscasts. Experience editing content on a desktop editing system. Ability to make priority decisions under a deadline. Strong ability to deliver news as it develops on all current and future platforms. Team player mentality. Bilingual, English, and Spanish.
