RK&K has an opportunity for a Structural/Bridge Engineer in our Richmond and Virginia Beach offices. The successful candidate will prepare designs of bridges and other transportation related structures for a variety of project types and clients, from preliminary concepts to final construction plans.
Essential Function Prepare and check structural calculations and plans Calculate and check quantities for bridge construction projects Lead bridge inspection assignments in the field Develop, write, review, and submit inspection reports Perform bridge load ratings
Required Skills and Experience Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required. NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course with Refresher Training within the last 5 years Registration as an Engineering in Training (EIT) (passed the FE exam) is required. Experience in learn design and CADD computer software such as; STADD Pro, VBent, MicroStation, various other structural programs and various bridge condition inspection reporting software. Effective oral and written communications skills Field work is required
Preferred Skills and Experience Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Professional Engineer's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
Other Requirements Valid driver's license and favorable driving record Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Be able to climb ladders and work at heights Be able to communicate effectively - verbal and written Ability to travel throughout Virginia with occasional travel to Maryland and North Carolina Occasional consecutive overnight stays Work in an outside environment with exposure to snakes, spiders, insects, and poisonous plants
