Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Engineer Systems – Global Systems Safety Engineer (24-335) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL. Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations. The successful candidate will be part of an integrated team tasked with defining the physical, functional, and technical architecture necessary to describe the desired capabilities of an evolving BMDS Battle Management, Command and Control, and Communications effort. Essential Functions: System Engineering background with a specialization in System and Software Safety. Integral to the team, defining the architecture necessary to achieve desired system capabilities. Experience generating responsibility sections of capability specifications and training less experienced personnel. Reviewing technical product content and acting as a technical interface to MDA counterparts as required. System Safety engineering and the development of program safety plans, applying safety policies and guidance. Providing support to MDA and other program personnel and other systems engineering tasks as needed. Ensuring high-quality products are generated on time and within the resources available. Basic Qualifications: An active Secret clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance. 9 years' experience with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related field; 7 years' experience with a master’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related field. Thorough understanding of system safety engineering practices. Skills required include identification and definition of desired capabilities. Modeling the interrelationships between internal and external system components. Communicating desired capabilities to developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and end-users. Generation of system/element level functional, performance, and interface specifications. Support Global System Safety Requirements Analysis and customer coordination for safety impact and safety criticality. Heavily involved in the Integration & Testing (I&T) process, ensuring all Safety Critical DTAPS stay on schedule. Provide support for both the internal C2BMC Safety Team and the customer during BCQS reviews. Independent completion of safety analyses, including preliminary hazard analysis (PHA) and subsystem hazard analysis (SSHA). Preferred Qualifications: A current and active TS/SCI clearance is highly desired.
