Compensation Overview:

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range:

$135,700.00 - $223,900.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking a Senior Security Software Engineer to join our Cybersecurity & Identity Engineering organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. This role will focus on enhancing the security posture of our products, applications, and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with quality systems and processes. The individual will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing comprehensive cybersecurity plans across our portfolio, including expansion of secrets management platforms, cryptography services, public key infrastructure, cloud services, zero trust supporting infrastructure and custom in-house services. The ideal candidate will possess advanced technical proficiency with software development, process automation and communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external consultants. This position is integral to the Cybersecurity, Identity and Engineering organization, where you will lead and support security activities, including risk assessments, security analysis, technical documentation and mentorship.

What Will You Do?

Take lead in design, installation, maintenance, upgrade, security, disaster recovery and enhancement of custom in-house or off the shelf security software.

Rapidly master the technical aspects of Travelers security products and business partner needs to drive essential changes and improvements.

Perform complex analysis, advanced level design, configuration and develop functions for impactful and high-visibility tasks.

Drive automation strategies for encryption, secrets, key management products and services, zero trust supporting infrastructure, and security applications deployed in physical, virtual, and Cloud environments.

Oversee activities in functional areas, divisions, or projects as needed, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Participate in research, analysis and evaluation of new zero trust solutions and services in the cloud, local data center, and desktop environments.

Develop metrics and dashboards for deployed security solutions coverage and utilization and implement performance improvement measures.

Take the lead on directing and implementing solutions to moderately complex, loosely scoped problems that are aligned with team goals.

Deliver efforts both independently and by leading other team members.

Act as a technology advocate, independently seeking opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve the business.

Provide technical guidance and mentorship while fostering a team environment.

Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned efforts.

Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.

Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

Broad knowledge of all IT related technologies with subject matter expertise in IT Security related technology and business exposures impacting organizational vitality preferred.

Excellent communication skills, with ability to relate to the audience. Prior experience presenting to the leadership and software engineering community, creating content that is audience appropriate.

Basic application security skills are a must.

Desire to grow in application security space is a must.

Prior application architecture experience is a plus.

Leadership skills. Able to take work from inception to completion with minimal oversight.

Advanced delivery skills including the ability to determine the software design strategy and methodology to be used for efforts, use automated tests, analysis, and informed feedback loops to ensure the quality and production readiness of work before release.

Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including the ability to develop business partnerships and influence priorities by identifying solutions that are aligned with current business objective and closely follow industry trends relevant to domain.

Strong problem solver who utilizes data and proofs of concepts to find creative solutions to difficult problems.

Strong communicator who possesses the ability to describe technology concepts in ways the business can understand.

Advanced leadership skills with the ability to take action even when there is no clear owner.

Demonstrated knowledge of application security tools and best practices, including vulnerability scanning and management.

What is a Must Have?

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or its equivalent in work experience.

Three years of programming/development experience.
