Job Summary
As a
Gas Senior Engineer - Gas Engineering System Planning,
you will be the subject matter leader to system planning, providing engineering expertise for planning, design, operation, and maintenance of the gas distribution and transmission systems. You will apply strong engineering principles, industry knowledge, and regulatory standards to develop engineered solutions and recommendations to enhance the safety and reliability of the natural gas transmission and delivery systems, including gate and regulator stations. This role involves working across operating companies and state regulators on gas distribution and transmission planning matters.
Responsibilities
Working under the direction of Lead and Principal Engineers, you will:
Conduct complex hydraulic analyses regarding system capacity, safety, and reliability projects.
Interface with Gas Supply and support Gas System Design and Gas Operations to troubleshoot and resolve short and long-term issues within the gas system.
Write technical engineering reports to summarize findings and justify capital investments.
Maintain the Regulator Station and Gate Station Program by updating the Asset Risk Assessment of gate stations, regulator stations, and primary valve records; evaluate stations and develop concept-level station improvement plans including the specification of station equipment.
Collaborate to develop and maintain the 10-year budget for gas system planning.
Interface with and provide engineering and system planning support to Gas Operations, Economic Development, Gas Supply, Gas Control, Customer Service, developers, municipalities, and government agencies.
Skills and Requirements
Theoretical Engineering Knowledge
- Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global view of the business.
Practical Engineering Experience/Application
- Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction (e.g., field experience, standardization).
Engineering Documentation
- Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation.
Ability to Review and Approve Engineering Work
- Ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment
- Local, State, and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements.
Education & Experience Required:
Bachelor of Science Degree or Engineering Technology Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
Minimum 6 - 8 years of technical experience in gas engineering and/or related field.
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) desirable. Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
Knowledge and experience in gas engineering and design, national and state code requirements and standards, and compliance requirements associated with API, ASTM, ASME, ANSI, 49 CFR Part 191 & Part 192, NYS Title 16 Chapter III and ISO 9001 desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a global company or matrix reporting organization.
Experience in related work, with emphasis on fluid mechanics and modeling.
