Blue Origin
SLD ECLS WPD Fluids Designer ll - Lunar Permanence
Blue Origin, Denver, Colorado, United States, 80285
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, the candidate performs hand calculations to size fluid systems and components, prepares detailed and assembly drawings for flight hardware parts and ground support equipment, and incorporates design changes using CAD tools. The candidate may support trade studies requiring basic analysis and engineering fundamentals. A Fluids Designer supports engineering system design, functionality, and validation activities. Specifically, you will share in the team's impact on all aspects of designing, building, testing, and flying Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) flight hardware. The ECLS System comprises the essential hardware for humans to inhabit space safely. Within ECLS, the Water Processing and Distribution subsystem receives water byproducts from the Fuel Cells, treats it to remove contaminants, prevents microbial growth, and provides it to multiple interfaces at the proper flow rates, pressure, temperature, and quality levels.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Design, analyze, and test water fluid systems for environmental control and life support systems.
Develop and validate models of fluid systems using relevant software tools.
Conduct experiments and analyze data to understand system performance.
Design and maintain component and assembly product definition by creating CAD models and preparing design layouts and drawings.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate fluid systems into aerospace vehicles.
Participate in design reviews and provide technical input for continuous improvement.
Apply Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly.
Apply relevant company, industry (design, drafting, parts) standards and best practices to engineering designs.
Adhere to Blue Leadership Principles.
Minimum Qualifications
Four-year aerospace or mechanical engineering degree (or similar discipline)
Experience with Solid modelling, piping, and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and configuration control of engineering and documentation.
Experience understanding fabrication and installation drawings.
Knowledge of typical use, constraints, and specification of fluid components typical in tubing and piping systems (valves, regulators, pumps, etc.).
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teams composed of multiple roles and disciplines to achieve a common goal.
Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
Experience working on small technical team.
