Family Associate Judge

This position is responsible for carrying out judicial functions of hearing and determining issues which arise before and after trial in family cases and serves at the direction of all courts with a family law docket.
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Carries out judicial functions of hearing and determining issues which arise before and after trial in family cases.
Manage separate docket of Associate Judge as scheduled by Courts having family jurisdictions.
Perform on-site Magistrate duties for Galveston County as scheduled.
Perform additional Magistrate duties as required by the District and County Court at Law.
Must attend seminars periodically, as required for training, support, and education.
Must be available as a Tier 1 employee and remain local and available to report to work during emergencies and disasters.
Must have a valid Texas driver's license; may be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited school of law, and admitted to practice law in the State of Texas.
Must meet the requirements of Chapter 201 of the Texas Family Code including, meeting the requirements and qualifications to serve as a judge of the court or courts for which the associate judge is appointed.
Must be qualified to serve as a Magistrate.
3+ years of experience in management of court docket, courtroom procedures, and coordinating various projects/tasks.

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
The work is typically performed in an office.
