Introduction
No Child Left Inside/Sky's the Limit Seasonal Help. Spend time outdoors in our CT State Parks and Forests working with families as part of the No Child Left Inside (NCLI) Program and with hikers and walkers with the Sky's the Limit (STL) Hiking Challenge Program. Needed December/January through August/September. 35-40 hours per week including weekends not exceeding 1,030 hours total.
Selection Plan
If selected for interview, applicants will be contacted by the division's hiring supervisor anticipated for March/April of 2025. If offered employment, new hires must complete all new-hire paperwork prior to their first day of employment, including providing a copy of a state issued ID and acceptable documents for Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9 form). Employment is contingent upon completion of a background check, including a review of employment, criminal and motor vehicle records. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
No Child Left Inside (NCLI) Program Position: Seasonal Resource Assistants assigned to the NCLI Program will assist by providing office/field support to the No Child Left Inside Coordinator. The Seasonal Resource Assistant will be involved with all aspects of NCLI in-person activities, events, and programs at various CT State Parks and Forests. Additionally, you will help develop/present thematic environmental programs, create presentations, create postings for parks and Families in the Parks Program Events, track ongoing attendance at park programs, compile short videos, take photographs, and assist with special projects as needed.
Sky's The Limit (STL) Hiking Challenge Position: Seasonal Resource Assistants assigned to Sky's The Limit should enjoy being outdoors and walking and hiking; have a willingness to travel to various CT State Parks and Forests to visit and hike trails. Additionally, you will assist DEEP staff with visiting various trails across the state as well as with the administrative side of this program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Ability to follow instructions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to follow instructions, ability to carry 10 pounds or more, experience with Word, Excel, and Canva, social media experience, and experience or background in environmental education or natural resources education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate. Incumbents may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following: Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license, possession of a valid license to apply pesticides, college training in a specific field, or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific State facilities. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
