DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Our engineering organization is comprised of three primary departments: Current Product Engineering (CPE), New Product Engineering (NPE), Product Validation and the Colorado Technology Center (CTC).
The New Product Engineering (NPE) Team is focused on developing the next GILLIG products and major upgrades to our existing product line. These efforts focus primarily on:
Zero-Emission powertrains
Major quality improvements
Major cost reduction, maintainability, and product stability improvements
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Engineer I in the New Product Engineering team who will be responsible for the overall design, development, and integration of the Low Voltage electrical systems for all future vehicles. You will have direct influence on vehicle electrical systems from concept through to manufacturing launch to field support.
You will be part of the team that develops the industry's best-in-class zero emission bus. You will focus on component selection, harness design, circuit protection and overall power distribution architecture. Assignments are broad in scope and highly complex that require outstanding creativity, superior initiative, good judgement, and leadership skills combined with the willingness to do hands-on engineering.
TECHNICAL FOCUS
Power and Signal Distribution
You will apply your skills & experience to provide highly customized, vehicle-based power & signal distribution systems through definition and/or selection of harnesses, devices, fusing, and connectors of appropriate size. Additional consideration for routing and environmental conditions will also play a major factor as the GILLIG Transit Bus is both a heavy-duty industrial and automotive product. Experience with low voltage (12/24VDC) and high voltage (600VDC, 240/480VAC) is required. Experience in electrical harness manufacturing and/or industrial control systems a plus.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
Carefully review component specifications and component selection
Lead low voltage harness & schematic designs that include:
Perform design analysis on electrical loads, power distribution, & circuit protection
Lead DFMEA discussions in order to identify potential risks and implement design changes to mitigate potential failure modes based on results
Lead design reviews with cross-functional teams to ensure they meet project requirements as well as regulatory & industry standards
Support production launch activities and continuous products and process improvements
Help support both on-site & off-site troubleshooting activities with our Production Support &/or the Customer Care teams when necessary
Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts and advise stakeholders on technical issues that could affect product design and delay deliverables
Advise stakeholders on technical issues that affect product design, production cycle-time and cost
Work cross-functionally with other engineers, designers, technicians, sales representatives, installers, and project managers to deliver projects on schedule & on budget, improving cost, quality, delivery, and performance
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor Degree in Engineering
Minimum 5 years of progressive engineering experience
Direct experience with:
Low voltage system design, signal management, harness routing, circuit protection, harness retention, conductor sizing, and EMC/EMI shielding
Electrical power distribution, load calculation and circuit protection
Diagnosis and troubleshooting electrical systems using tools such as function generator, multimeter, oscilloscope, hi-pot tester, megger ohm meter, etc.
Familiarity with:
Manufacturing processes and environment
Heavy-Duty vehicles
ECAD software such as Zuken E3, Mentor Graphics, and/or AutoCAD Electrical
Standardized methodologies such as 8D, five whys, and fishbone process to diagnose complex issues
Industry standards such as FMVSSS, NHTSA, DOT, NFPA, SAE, NEC, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally kneel or squat
Limited travel may be required
Standard start time: 6:00 a.m. (negotiable)
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $275,000/annual salary + premium benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
