to join our USC Libraries IT department. The Systems Administrator III will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and developing data storage and retrieval systems for the Digital Repository. The successful candidate will be tasked with developing and maintaining scripts and small utilities to manage Digital Repository archive assets including transfers to mirror locations, audits of archive integrity, and recovery of data from mirror locations. In addition, the Systems Administrator III will manage and maintain Digital Repository data storage systems, including EMC Isilon, Avamar, ECS, and Oracle Diva. This is a fixed-term position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027. This is a full-time role eligible for USC benefits. The USC Libraries actively support the discovery, creation, and preservation of knowledge. We develop collections and services that support and encourage the academic endeavors of faculty, students, and staff; build a community of critical consumers of information; and help develop engaged world citizens. Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a systems administrator. Experience with at least one or more of the following systems: Oracle, EMC Isilon, Data Domain, Avamar, and ECS. Minimum of 3 years of experience developing and maintaining data storage and retrieval systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Creative, self-motivated, resourceful. Able to work independently as well as in a team setting. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adjust to changing priorities, and balance support and project work. Demonstrated strong personal mastery, including ethics, interpersonal skills, and engage in continuous learning. Experience recovering data from mirror locations. In addition, the successful candidate must demonstrate, through ideas, words, and actions, a strong commitment to USC’s Unifying Values of integrity, excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion, well-being, open communication, and accountability. Job Accountabilities: Write applications that typically deal with utility programs and/or overall operating systems. Maintain complex operating systems. Design, code, test, debug, and document programs. Schedule work, set priorities, establish deadlines, and ensure the timely completion of all work by systems programmers, as assigned. Evaluate new and existing software products. Provide technical information on the operating system and its supported products to others. Formulate/define specifications for complex operating software or modify complex existing applications. Stay informed of new developments and technologies by reading journals and other pertinent publications, maintaining contact with vendors, and participating in professional organizations, meetings, and seminars. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
