A well-funded AI mental healthcare company has exclusively engaged Samson Rose to help them find a VP of Software Engineering to head up their software development efforts as a player-coach, balancing hands-on coding with strategic leadership. This person will play a pivotal role in both building the core of the software products and shaping the future of the engineering team.
This person will be responsible for architecting and implementing the technical infrastructure, supporting the development of client-facing applications, defining engineering best practices, and fostering a culture of excellence. This role requires deep technical acumen and a desire to build great products, along with the ability to grow a high-performing engineering team.
This role is crucial to the business, and the person they hire will be enabling the building of the first clinically integrated therapy LLMs! The product/service is impactful, making mental healthcare accessible and convenient to the masses. The LLM will treat patients under the supervision and instructions of a clinician, allowing for superior clinical outcomes than a clinician alone could deliver.

The person we are looking for:
8+ years of software development experience, with a proven track record in a leadership or mentorship capacity.
Experience building end-to-end products, including backend infrastructure and front-end experiences.
Exceptional ability to balance hands-on coding with leadership responsibilities, including team building and process improvement.
Deep empathy for non-technical users, with a history of building solutions significantly enhancing others’ lives.
Ability to thrive in environments with extreme ambiguity and to deconflict priorities into clear, actionable plans.
Experience engaging directly with users to uncover their needs and iterating rapidly based on feedback.
Experience building web and mobile applications involving user or AI communication (text, video, audio) is a bonus.
Technical stack expertise: Python, Node, Next.js, React, React Native, Postgres, AWS/GCP, REST APIs.
Your day-to-day:
Architect : Drive the development of the technical architecture, including integrations with LLMs and third-party solutions (e.g., EHRs), while maintaining a hands-on role in coding and building key components.
Team Building : Recruit, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, setting high standards for engineering practices and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Best Practices : Establish and champion engineering best practices, coding standards, and development processes to ensure high-quality, scalable, and maintainable code.
Front End Development : Oversee the creation of intuitive and engaging user interfaces that empower patients and therapists in their care journey.
User Research : Collaborate with cross-functional teams to engage with users, gather feedback, and implement solutions that meet their needs.
Strategic Collaboration : Work closely with Product, Design, Clinical Affairs, and other teams to ideate and develop innovative solutions that address the top needs and pain points of patients and therapists.
