Position Overview
Generac is hiring a Staff level Firmware Engineer IV. In this role, you will be responsible for providing firmware for embedded control systems used in new product development, enhancements to system features, and existing product firmware support. This role will involve helping in the design and development of new controls or algorithms and system testing both in the lab and on real products. This position is located on-site in our new N. Billerica Office.
Major Responsibilities:
Provide new product development support specific to microprocessors/microcontrollers in the Industrial, Commercial, Residential and/or Retail generator or Power Tool product area.
Design, validate, and bring new products to market, including designing and developing application software/firmware for embedded controllers in C, defining interface requirements, and creating firmware for communication interfaces and/or system algorithms.
Design new control algorithms and perform Applications Engineering.
Develop new firmware or software modules and maintain supporting documentation.
Create, design, and develop test specifications for new systems and firmware/software.
Conduct and evaluate test specifications including testing firmware/hardware.
Participate in Design for Manufacturability and Design for Test activities.
Collaborate with internal product development departments and other core engineering teams to specify interfaces and/or algorithms needed in controls.
Utilize simulation tools.
Create PC-based testing tools.
Troubleshoot designs to the component level.
Proactively train, coach, and mentor less experienced Engineers.
Collaborate with internal product partners, designers, and product specialists to optimize specifications for integration.
Occasional travel to other Generac facilities and customer site visits.
Mentor less experienced engineers.
Other duties as assigned; anticipate less than 10%.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or directly related Engineering degree.
7 years of experience with embedded programming using languages such as C, C++, C#.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to translate technical information to all audiences.
Expert level understanding and knowledge of engineering principles.
Able to solve intermediate engineering problems; good decision-making skills.
Expert level knowledge of communication protocols/hardware interface.
Expert level ability to write test firmware to test hardware designs.
Advanced ability to use FMEA/DFMEA tools.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel is required.
