In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for general radiation treatment planning documentation and quality assurance of patient treatment plans. Has the training and expertise necessary to measure and generate radiation dose distributions and calculations for adult and pediatric patients under the direction of the Radiation Oncology Physicist and the Radiation Oncologist. This may include either external beam radiation therapy or brachytherapy. The Dosimetrist must follow the direction of the prescribing physician in developing an appropriate treatment plan and does so under the supervision of a physicist. Job Responsibilities: Treatment Planning: Evaluates consistency of target volumes, identifies critical structures and contours as required, generates QA plans as required for IMRT and reference points as needed for physics checks, properly utilizes reference points to sum dose to sites, follows established procedures and dose constraints. Documentation: Assures that Rx Physics plan are signed/approved by Physician prior to treatment, ensures all paperwork and electronic forms are complete, signed and labeled accordingly. Planning and Time Utilization: Plans work in advance and successfully implements it, demonstrates flexibility in adjusting to the fluctuating needs of the department and patients. Initiative: Understands tasks and creatively applies solutions, adopts new physics initiatives and policies, monitors patient tracker to effect a smooth and orderly process for patients and staff. Participation in training of Residents and Students: Assists in training on use of Eclipse or ARIA and the principle of treatment planning. Participates in in-service programs and conferences: Attends all required department in-service meetings and safety classes. All other related duties as required: Constructs shielding materials and templates, imports images to Eclipse, keeps physics supervisory staff informed of planning or linac issues. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelor of Science degree and well-developed communication and computer skills. Preferred Qualifications: MDCB Certified; Graduate of a JRCERT Medical Dosimetry Program. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
