POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Food and Nutrition Representative is responsible for transporting, operating, and maintaining the meal service cart (Retherm cart) and its companion cart. This role includes providing individualized meal service to every patient, assembling patient meal trays following diet orders, and ensuring diet accuracy. The representative will consult with nursing staff to maintain accurate patient information in the computer system, collect patient meal trays, and follow established HACCP sanitation procedures for cleaning the Retherm Cart, companion cart, serving utensils, trays, dishes, and miscellaneous items used on the cart. Additionally, they will maintain and deliver nourishment supplies as ordered to patient floor units and record food, refrigerator, and freezer temperatures daily to ensure food safety. Position: Food and Nutrition Representative Department: Food and Nutrition Schedule: Full Time, 40Hrs Rotating Day/Eves ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: This position involves working independently. The individual must possess pride of ownership for the cart and the service provided to the patients, ensuring patient meal satisfaction is met. The representative must be self-motivated, self-directed, and able to work well alone or in a group setting. They must be able and willing to perform multiple task assignments and may occasionally be requested to mentor and train new employees. Duties include: Assemble meal service cart and its companion cart with all food items and condiments to match menu and diet orders. Adhere to safe food handling practices while maintaining food's proper temperatures. Program and operate cart to refrigerate, heat, and hold temperatures of food. Notify supervisor of any equipment malfunctions. Transport meal cart and its companion cart to designated patient unit within scheduled time, avoiding unnecessary damage. Consult with nursing staff about any changes to patients that may affect meal service and obtain necessary information in writing. Prepare cart food items for service and match correct serving utensils to menu items. Greet patients and communicate menu choices appropriate to their specific diet orders. Assemble meal trays according to patient choices and diet order, ensuring an attractive presentation. Conduct at least one Patient Satisfaction Survey per scheduled shift. Provide clerical support services and maintain accurate patient data. Deliver nourishments and floor stock to patient units, maintaining established par levels. Prepare special infant and adult formulas, shakes, and tube feedings following written recipes. Assist with the orientation of new staff members by demonstrating basic duties. Observe all of BMC's behavioral standards and report to work in authorized uniform attire. Follow established hospital infection control and safety procedures. Minimum of two years' experience in food service/customer service environment. Patient feeding experience with all age groups and diet experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of basic principles of nutrition, diets, recipes, food preparation, and service. Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English. Ability to interact and communicate with patients and staff. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to follow federal, state, and local regulatory agency standards. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and transport the meal cart without assistance. Sufficient dexterity to handle food and equipment efficiently and safely.
