The Colorado Shakespeare Festival, located on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder, encourages applications for the Technical Director and two Associate Technical Director positions for the 2023 CSF Season! These positions will support the success of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Details for each position are available in the "Key Responsibilities" section below. The 2023 CSF season begins in May 2023 and responsibilities for these positions will continue through August 2023. The Technical Director will have some remote responsibilities beginning in December 2022 regarding design and production meetings. The ATDs will have potential remote work in March/April 2023 depending on need and availability. TECHNICAL DIRECTOR:

Supervise scene shop operations for four-show season in two venues including the planning of the build, load-in, repertory changeovers, and maintenance of scenery and props. Collaborate with the Production Manager on technical and budgetary feasibility of designs and the realization of designs within budget and schedule. Supervise the build, installation, rigging, and strike of sets. Coordinate safety training and oversight, as well as the maintenance of shop space and equipment. Work with the Production Manager to ensure deadlines are met within budget and time constraints. Supervise and direct up to two Associate Technical Directors. Supervise and instruct production crew and interns on theatrical skills and standard processes. Perform skilled carpentry work using a variety of materials related to the construction of theatrical scenery as needed. Remote participation in production and design meetings, scenic bid process, construction drawings, and crew hiring. Assist as needed across departmental lines as designated by the CSF Production Manager. ASSOCIATE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR:

Work in collaboration with the CSF Technical Director on scene shop operations, planning, build, load-in, repertory changeovers, and maintenance of scenery and props throughout the season. Work on two to four productions in the season, assisting as needed across departmental lines as designated by the CSF Production Manager. Create scenic shop drawings under the guidance of the CSF Technical Director. Consult with the CSF Technical Director on supervising build, installation, rigging, and strike of sets, safety training and oversight, and the maintenance of shop spaces and equipment. Direct and instruct production crew and interns on theatrical skills and standard processes. Perform skilled carpentry work using a variety of materials related to the construction of theatrical scenery as needed. Lead changeovers and perform routine maintenance to shows running in rep. Supervise strike and load-out at the completion of the season. WHAT WE REQUIRE:

At least one year of related experience demonstrating the required skills is required for all positions. Appropriate education will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. A valid driver’s license is required for these positions. WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR:

Professional experience in theatrical technical direction. 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role. At least three years professional experience and/or advanced training in stage carpentry, welding, rigging, and safety. Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks to produce clear working drawings for shop staff. Experience safely operating a 26’ box truck. Teaching/mentoring experience. ASSOCIATE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR:

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in stage carpentry, welding, rigging, set electrics, and safety. Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks proficiency to support the production of clear working drawings for shop staff. Teaching/mentoring experience. ESSENTIAL SERVICES

This position is designated “essential/critical services.” The incumbent is required to respond to requests for work during campus emergencies (snow, wind, rain, flood and any other natural or man-made event) and report to work for regularly assigned shifts during emergency campus closures.
