Stormwater Design Mid-Level Engineer

The primary duties of the Design Mid-Level Engineer include working under the direction of a principal engineer on planning and design projects. Depending on the applicant’s qualifications, work duties may also support our other research and compliance practices. The Design Mid-Level Engineer is expected to work independently as well as plan, organize, and assist other staff including mentoring junior staff.
Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities
Be a self-starter and driven to solve problems.
Have good writing, presentation, and speaking skills, as the position may involve presenting at public events.
Create and update hydraulic and hydrology models to support the development of stormwater comprehensive plans, studies, and designs.
Communicate effectively and proactively with internal staff, teaming partners, reviewing agencies, and clients.
Use commonly accepted practices to develop engineering design deliverables, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Conduct site visits, collect data, and provide data analysis.
Assist in the development of technical memos, alternatives analyses, engineering reports, and planning studies.
Assist with project management duties including developing and managing project schedules and budgets.
Mentor and delegate to junior staff.

Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience working on stormwater or water resources engineering projects
Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering
Professional Engineer License (PE) in Washington State or the ability to obtain a license in Washington State within six months of being hired
Experience creating, updating, and reviewing hydraulic and hydrologic models
Experience with AutoCAD and ArcGIS/QGIS
Washington State or North Idaho resident or the ability to become a resident within one year of being hired
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering
Experience with Washington State Phase I and Phase II NPDES Permits, Washington State Department of Ecology stormwater design manuals, and Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Design Manuals, including the Highway Runoff Manual (HRM) and Hydraulics Manual (HM)
Experience with StormShed, SWMM, MGSFlood, and/or WWHM
Ability to work on a team and independently in a remote setting on multiple projects
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
Positive attitude and passion for stormwater management

Salary starting at $95,000
