Job: Network Engineer Location: Washington, DC Compensation: $120,000-$140,000 Contract to Hire Position Overview: We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer to design, implement, and support complex enterprise networks, including LANs, WANs, SD-WAN, and wireless networks. This role will focus on optimizing network performance, ensuring security, and supporting video/audio transmission solutions, with a particular emphasis on network monitoring and troubleshooting. Responsibilities: Design and deploy network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, wireless networks, and multicast systems). Optimize network performance and monitor issues across networks, including IP-based voice and video conferencing. Implement network security practices using firewalls, VPNs, encryption, IDS/IPS, and secure proxies. Stay updated on industry trends and apply best practices for network growth and improvement. Provide Tier 2 support for network issues, produce documentation, and maintain system configurations. Assist in troubleshooting network performance issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Prepare and maintain operational documentation and assist with system handoffs. Minimum Qualifications: 8+ years of experience in planning, designing, and supporting multi-vendor enterprise networks, ideally in a 24/7 customer-facing environment. Expertise with routing protocols (IGMP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VPNs) and network security technologies (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS). Detailed knowledge of wireless networking standards (802.11b/a/n/ac/ax). Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and network automation. IP networking certification (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA). Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and in teams, with a customer-focused approach. Technical Skills: Extensive experience with IP multicast, routing (Cisco, Arista), and WAN technologies (SD-WAN, IPSEC VPN). Proficiency in firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA), VLANs, VXLAN, and Ethernet switching. Knowledge of video/audio over IP transmission, network management protocols (SNMP, TACACS, NTP), and load balancing. Familiarity with broadcast/IT signal flow, data center systems, and automation/scripting. Experience with cloud networking and WAN technologies such as MPLS and Ethernet.
