Summary of the Job: This person will conduct needs assessments, design a simulation curriculum for instruction, facilitate simulation integrated into the curriculum, implement and teach simulation education classes, and follow up with an evaluation of the curriculum. This person functions in the role of educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher, and leader. Essential Functions: Facilitate the use of simulation to create immersive experiences designed to support learner’s attainment of course objectives. Design simulation scenarios in conjunction with educators to meet the educational needs of the learners and those of our external partnerships. Assist faculty in planning, directing, and evaluating simulation activities. Assure compliance with regulatory and professional standards regarding the use of simulation in educational programs. Support and recommend proposals for potential grant opportunities to fund new simulation initiatives. Provide faculty orientation, ongoing development, and literature on the principles of simulation as an educational methodology with emphasis on the principles of briefing, facilitation, debriefing, evaluation, and others as determined. Operate, program, and assure maintenance of all patient care simulators, bedside monitors, and viewing/recording systems. Operate and assure maintenance of all patient care equipment and task trainers. Ensure student compliance with lab policies, procedures, and safety precautions. Contribute to the development of lab budget, oversee purchasing of supplies, and write capital justifications as needed. Supervise and approve time for simulation hospital employees. Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; report to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors. Maintains professional knowledge: Able to operate or learn to operate different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators and virtual reality simulation. Attend educational and technical workshops. Establish personal networks. Benchmark state-of-the-art practices. Participate in professional societies. Assist with other special projects or initiatives as needed. Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty, students, and other users of the Center. Qualifications and Experience: MSN in Nursing - Doctorate preferred. Unencumbered license to practice nursing in the state of Texas. Experience with curriculum development and training. Minimum of 2 years experience with simulation. CHSE certification preferred.
