VASCULAR SONOGRAPHER . WORK SCHEDULE: - PER DIEM - DAY SHIFT DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The VASCULAR SONOGRAPHER will be part of the innovative team in the D. E. Strandness Jr. Vascular Laboratory at the University of Washington. Under general direction, the Vascular Sonographer independently performs vascular tests from all 5 major testing areas (extracranial carotid, intracranial cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, peripheral venous, and visceral vascular). These examinations range from standard tests such as carotid duplex for internal carotid stenosis and venous duplex for acute deep vein thrombosis to specialized protocols developed for our specific patient population and referring providers. Our staff are expected to adapt established testing protocols for individual patients based on the history and preliminary findings in order to document the information necessary to accurately determine the diagnosis. The Vascular Sonographer also supports Vascular Surgery in the operating room when requested for intraoperative monitoring and assessment. Finally, the Vascular Sonographer supports the educational mission of the D. E. Strandness Jr. Vascular Laboratory by teaching residents and fellows in various University of Washington training programs and sonography students from several CAAHEP-accredited diagnostic medical sonography programs, and by contributing to research projects. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform high level vascular tests, independent of direct physician supervision. Use a variety of testing instrumentation. Adapt examinations to answer clinical questions. Prepare preliminary reports based on examination findings. Maintain examination facilities and equipment in accordance with our safety policy. Utilize multiple vascular testing instruments and identify when maintenance issues occur. Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information to ensure the appropriate test is being performed. Ensure indications are appropriate for the examination ordered. Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand and explain the test that will be performed. Perform examinations and apply criteria according to the laboratory protocols. Provide thorough documentation according to the examination protocol and any additional images necessary to support interpretation. Alert the referring provider or vascular surgery team of critical positive examination results. Contribute to quality assurance processes. Assist with training of medical and surgical residents and sonography students. Participate in research activities. Share in call rotation and coverage of the satellite vascular laboratory. REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a training program accredited by the American Medical Association – Committee on Allied Health Education (AMA-CAHEA) for vascular ultrasound AND possess current registration as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR Equivalent education/experience.
