Generator Field Service Technician - DRUPS - Los Angeles, CA Our client is a global provider and manufacturer of industrial power equipment used in emergency backup power applications for mission-critical data center facilities operations. Ideal candidates will have previous Fly Wheel / DRUPS Generator Experience working in a low to medium voltage environment doing installs and PMs. We are looking for an experienced Critical Facility Generator Technician who will be responsible for installations, scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of standby power equipment. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain engines used in standby power equipment – e.g.: generators such as Kohler Generators, CAT / Caterpillar Generators, Cummins Generators, Diesel Generators, Generac Generators, along with Piller, Hitec, Active Power, MTU, Rolls Royce, etc. Diagnose trouble, disassemble engines and examine parts for defects and excessive wear. Candidates must have basic knowledge of electrical components. Responsibilities: Troubleshoot and work independently onsite at customer’s location and perform quarterly, semi-annual, and annual preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of standby power equipment to include both electrical and mechanical systems. Mechanical and electrical maintenance performed on time and in accordance with contract and OEM specifications. Maintenance a complete inspection of the control panels as needed. Administer monitoring /SCADA / PLC software for troubleshooting. Diagnose / troubleshoot, disassemble engines and examine parts for defects and excessive wear. Repair and service for both routine and emergency service on a variety of state-of-the-art critical systems such as diesel generators, gaseous generators, etc. Setting generators as needed and balance of plant equipment. Perform both minor and major overhauls when needed. Will also be required to replace electrical components such as relays and sensors when needed. Read and review single line diagrams / wiring diagrams. Maintain a constant state of readiness in support of the mission goal of 99.999% uptime. Create field service reports, daily progress reports, complete site checklists. Act as a point of reference for the customer. Assist clients with telephone support to address technical issues. Provide technical support to customers, sister companies, distributors, and agents. Support other engineers during the installation phase on site, prior to the commissioning of the UPS install. Qualifications: 2-6+ years of data center / critical facility generator operations and maintenance and repair experience. 5+ years of previous Field Service Experience with electrical or mechanical systems. Technical associate level training (or similar). Electrical background and/or knowledge. Affinity with control engineering, medium and low voltage, and mechanical engineering. Strong desire to have a career in maintaining DRUPS / rotating equipment. Previous experience servicing OEM Equipment such as Piller, Hitec, Active Power, MTU, Rolls Royce a huge plus. Experience with CAT / Caterpillar; Cummins; Generac; Kohler also a plus. Solid understanding of critical electrical and mechanical / HVAC equipment as it relates to generators. Previous experience in the military / military veterans a huge plus! Experience with Electrical / Mechanical: Navy nukes - EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc. Strong verbal and written communication skills as this is a client-facing / customer service position. Punctual and service-driven; willingness to learn and improve skills. Solid acumen for using a laptop as it pertains to receiving correspondence as well as service tickets (need to know how to use a laptop and work order applications). Travel when required (short notice). Clean driving record is a must.
