Technical Editor

to edit a variety of technical material that educates water industry professionals. Essential Functions Edit, rewrite or write, and proofread publications for maximum readability, clarity, syntax, grammar, spelling, and conformance with AWWA style, the

Chicago Manual of Style , and other publishing industry accepted standards and policies for technical publications. Adhere to production schedules and deadlines for all projects and assignments. Serve as publishing liaison with the Standards and Manuals group (Engineering and Technical Services; ETS). Communicate with internal and external authors as needed, pose author queries as appropriate, and incorporate author corrections to copy. Collaborate with production editors and graphic designers on publications projects. Maintain current awareness and knowledge of trends, developments, and technologies in the publishing and drinking water professions including digital, copyright, and trademark issues. Serve as a backup and support to the Sr. Editorial Manager–Books as needed. Qualifications Education, Certifications, or Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree in science, journalism, English, or related area required. Training, coursework, or experience in engineering or the sciences including, but not limited to, biology or chemistry required. Work Experience Minimum of three (3) years publishing/editing experience required; technical editing experience on a peer-reviewed journal or on standards/consensus documents preferred.

Demonstrated proofreading and project management experience required. Experience with e-publishing and all-digital workflows preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of industry editorial standards (e.g.,

Chicago Manual of Style ) required. Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Working knowledge of Adobe products and experience with online publishing tools and XML tagging preferred. Pay is dependent upon qualifications; pay range is targeted between $29.47 - $33.68 per hour and is paired with a comprehensive benefits package that includes: Immediate eligibility and vesting for retirement savings plan with a 6% employer contribution

and
