JOB/POSITION TITLE:
Communications Coordinator STATUS:
Non-exempt PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under the Manager of Communications' supervision, the coordinator provides support for communications, website and email marketing, content creation, public relations and promotions. Reports To:

Volunteers as necessary ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS: Website Maintenance:
Supports regular public website and internal website (intranet) maintenance as well as update requests from other departments as needed. Digital Media Management:
Coordinates and supports content creation and graphic design for Hawaiian Humane's online communications such as e-blasts and graphic elements for the website, as well as social media platforms in collaboration with the Digital Marketing and Social Media Strategist. Shelter Publicity & Signage:
Coordinates and maintains all shelter displays - ensuring they comply with Hawaiian Humane's style guide and materials are replenished. Publications Support:
Assists with writing and production of all collateral; including, but not limited to newsletters, educational flyers and other publications. Maintains the Hawaiian Humane Society's newsletter mailing list. Reviews public communications from Community Engagement team and other departments as needed. Media Relations:
Coordinates and participates in television and media interviews. Writes and edits news. Gathers information in response to media inquiries. Grows and maintains partnerships with local media. Image Management:
Establishes, organizes and maintains photo files for public relations use. Coordinates Hawaiian Humane's photo needs. Updates and maintains photos for PetPoint, including animals available for adoption. Executes basic photo and video editing for internal and external communication needs. Vendor Relations:
Responsible for maintaining a positive and productive working relationship with vendors for Hawaiian Humane's website, printing and promotional needs. Administrative Duties:
Maintains community relations master contact database. Tracks and maintains inventory of publications, including educational and event flyers. Responsible for monthly editorial/media reporting. Provides Community Engagement administrative support as needed. OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS: Contribute ideas for internal and external improvements to the organization. Other duties as assigned. Indoors and outdoors. Equipment Use:
Occasional use of Hawaiian Humane Society vehicles. PC/Mac computer, digital camera, printer, copier, telephone. Hours:
Tuesday - Saturday, 8 am to 5 pm. Additional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Location:
Based primarily at Hawaiian Humane's Kosasa Family Campus at Hoʻopili in ʻEwa Beach, with occasional coverage at our Mōʻiliʻili Campus. MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS: Must maintain and present personal conduct, personal appearance and office space as a professional. Includes well-groomed and professional appearance and tidy office areas. Must exercise compassion, patience, professionalism, flexibility and tact when dealing with a broad range of volunteers and the public including difficult, emotional or angry people. Must have a flexible disposition to work with and engage a variety of volunteers, supporters and donors. Must be committed to behaving in an ethical manner. Must be committed to developing a deep knowledge of progressive animal welfare issues. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Skills/Knowledge:
Requires excellent computer knowledge. Must be able to be flexible and multi-task in a fast-paced office and work with multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy. Must have excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills, including storytelling, reporting, graphic design and editing ability. Valid driver's license, good driving record, access to own automobile and proof of no-fault insurance required. Must agree with and be committed to Hawaiian Humane goals, objectives and programs. Education/Training:
Minimum Associate's Degree or higher in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or equivalent experience. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience:
At least one year of experience in public relations or corporate communications. Demonstrated media relations success. Previous experience with social media account management, analytics/insights, Canva, MailChimp and WordPress with a basic understanding of HTML.
