Peraton is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented
Information Assurance and Security Specialist
to support a government aviation program. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of information systems within the program, including aviation systems, communications infrastructure, and sensitive data networks. The Information Assurance and Security Specialist will work closely with program managers, technical teams, and security experts to implement and maintain cybersecurity policies, risk management processes, and compliance with government regulations and standards. This role requires in-depth knowledge of cybersecurity protocols, aviation-specific systems, and best practices in protecting critical information infrastructure. Examples of duties include but not limited to: Develop, implement, and maintain information security policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of aviation systems, networks, and sensitive data. Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and risk analysis to identify threats and weaknesses in systems supporting aviation operations. Implement corrective actions and mitigate identified risks to ensure the security of mission-critical systems. Ensure compliance with government regulations and industry standards such as NIST, FISMA, and other applicable frameworks. Ensure all systems meet regulatory requirements and maintain certifications such as the DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP) or Risk Management Framework (RMF). Lead the response to security incidents or breaches, conducting thorough investigations and reporting findings to relevant authorities. Develop incident response protocols to minimize damage and reduce recovery times for aviation and IT systems. Ensure all aviation-related information systems, networks, and infrastructure components are securely configured, following best practices in hardening operating systems, applications, and network devices. Continuously monitor system and network activity to detect potential security breaches, anomalous behaviors, or system misconfigurations that could pose a risk to aviation operations. Utilize security tools to ensure proactive defense against threats. Provide cybersecurity training and awareness programs to aviation personnel and program stakeholders, emphasizing best practices in protecting sensitive information and ensuring system integrity. Work closely with IT, engineering, and operations teams to ensure cybersecurity is integrated into all phases of aviation system design, implementation, and operational processes. Maintain accurate records of security assessments, incident responses, compliance audits, and corrective actions. Prepare regular reports and updates for leadership regarding the status of information security and compliance efforts. This position is contingent upon award of contract Qualifications
Required Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience and certifications. Minimum of 8 years of experience in information security, cybersecurity, or information assurance, particularly within government or military aviation programs. Prior experience supporting government aviation programs, defense contracting, or aerospace systems is preferred. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working collaboratively in a team environment. Preferred Qualifications: Professional certifications such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), or CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) are highly preferred.
