Join the premier cancer treatment center on the East Coast - Virginia Cancer Institute is looking for a self-motivated, Medical Office Specialist/Secretary to join our team. Virginia Cancer Institute is a well respected, growing medical practice in the Richmond, Virginia market and is seeking a Medical Office Specialist/Secretary for our multiple-location Practice.
The position will greet, screen, schedule and direct patients throughout the office; verify insurance coverage with patients; answer telephones, screen calls, take messages, provide information, and check voice mail; call patients to reschedule their missed/no show appointments; call patients to remind them of their upcoming appointments; take incoming hospital/office consults; obtain medical records from referring physician’s; access hospital systems to get needed patient records; add new patient information into EMR system; open and distribute physician’s mail/faxes; obtain physician signatures, send out mail/faxes; prepare copies of CMN/Hospice referrals; compile and mail new patient information packets; obtain, verify and update patient information; provide support services to patients and medical staff; manage the physician’s weekly patient schedule; fit in patients, overbooks, vacations, blocked time; prepare patient charts; check insurance, referrals and co-pays; maintain the physician’s hospital list; add/remove patients, add information for billing; schedule provider, Lab and CT appointments for patients; write CT orders; scan necessary documents and unscanned charts into EMR system; review encounter forms to catch any missing information; maintain office equipment.
The qualified applicant should have some general office experience, preferably in the medical field. This role is a key, "team-player" position that requires accuracy, attention to detail, initiative and a pro-active approach to duties and responsibilities while working with patients, physicians and co-workers. The qualified applicant must demonstrate a positive attitude, with professional ethics, appearance and conduct.
