POSITION SUMMARY:

The Product Engineer - Siding responsibilities include supporting the design and manufacturing of new products, as well as improvement to existing offerings, of our line of exterior home sidings. Also work closely with packaging design and R&D to identify solutions and cost saving opportunities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Support Product Design, Development and Validation Testing of new products or current product extensions and improvements.
  • Change Management - present Engineering Change Requests, lead DFMEA, PFMEA and drawing review activities, develop APQP Action Plans and generate and issue ECN's for approved ECR's.
  • Work with packaging vendors to design and develop packaging solutions to support new vinyl and metals products and update existing packaging designs to improve performance or reduce cost.
  • Support Materials R&D lab work, DOE's and validation testing, generate R&D reports and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Manage 1-3 projects using Stage-Gate product development process to deliver projects on Time and on Budget.
  • Lead risk management and mitigation - Identify key project risks, categorize, assess corrective actions, lead the implementation of action plans.
  • Ability to identify and implement cost savings opportunities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
  • 4-year engineering degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or Process Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience working on product development projects with a capital impact of at least $1M.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) in a lean environment. This includes the utilization of design reviews and sign-offs to gain organizational buy-in.
  • Process engineering knowledge in extrusion, light assembly, metal and plastic fabrication and coatings.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Self-starter acts with minimal direction.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
  • Vinyl Siding or Building Product experience in product development.
  • Project Management experience recommended.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred, Solidworks 3D Modeling experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of how to set up and execute DOE's for PVC formulations.
