Position Summary
As a Vehicle and Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will diagnose, repair, and maintain mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, including cranes, bulldozers, graders, vehicles, and conveyors. This role is integral to ensuring the efficiency of our landfill operations and construction activities.
Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance:
- Inspect, adjust, and repair essential systems like brakes, steering mechanisms, and wheel bearings.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
- Rebuild and replace engine components, including fuel injection systems, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and emissions devices.
Diagnostic & Repair Tasks:
- Diagnose malfunctions using computerized diagnostic tools and gauges.
- Test mechanical equipment for compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Weld, fabricate, and recondition parts as needed.
- Overhaul internal combustion engines, pumps, and transmissions.
Operational Support:
- Maintain detailed service records for all equipment.
- Research, order, and manage parts inventory.
- Operate site machinery and assist with other landfill operations as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
- Valid driver’s license (required).
- Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Proficient in reading technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Physical capability to handle tasks in various environmental conditions.
Work Environment
- Combination of indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Requires frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and operating heavy equipment.
- Exposure to noise, contaminants, and potentially hazardous materials.
- Protective equipment (e.g., safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hard hats) is required.
Schedule & Compensation
- Hours: Full-time, 43–48 hours/week; Monday–Friday with occasional overtime or weekend shifts.
- Pay: $25.00–$40.00 per hour, based on experience.
