About the Position:
The Assistant Master Electrician, Center for the Arts (CFA), provides comprehensive stage lighting engineering, supervision and execution of stage lighting elements for all activities and events within the Center for the Arts comprising the subscription series, GMU activities, rental activities, and other activities as scheduled in the concert Hall. Responsible for meeting requirements of performance, coordination, and supervision of production stage technicians to fulfill artist requirements. This position is required to work nights and weekends.

Responsible for meeting requirements of performance, coordination, and supervision of production stage technicians to fulfill artist requirements. This position is required to work nights and weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, coordinates, and executes (setup/connect/test) the lighting and electrical elements for Center for the Arts events and adjunct activities;
- Performs necessary and required logistical preparations for events;
- Coordinates efforts with Master Electrician and other Production Department Heads under the general guidelines established by the production manager;
- Advises the Master Electrician regarding material needs for performances, maintenance, and special projects;
- Performs departmental operations and leads the supervision of crew in preparation for events;
- Performs occasional operation of stage machinery such as audio and rigging equipment needed to facilitate rehearsals as well as performances;
- Performs general stage duties for the preparation and restoration of facilities and equipment;
- Implements the annual maintenance and inventory program for lighting equipment of assigned CVPA facilities;
- Assists the Master Electrician with equipment maintenance, service, and repair. Assists in the planning of special initiatives and projects, as well as performs the work required for replacement, repair, rehabilitation, and installation of stage equipment and systems;
- Coordinates electric department needs with other production personnel and their related departments for effective overall management; and
- Provides instruction and/or mentoring for students and other stage technicians with an interest in stage lighting.
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Technical theatre with specific training in lighting control and dimming technology is required;
- Intermediate or higher lighting engineering experience or training, with demonstrated live operation experience;
- Knowledge of stage lighting control and dimming technology, technical theatre, music, drama, and dance idioms;
- Proficiency to meet lighting and electrical requirements of varied performance artists, musicians, dancers, etc.;
- Ability to setup, operate, and maintain complex lighting systems and configurations within a culturally diverse performing arts venue; and
- Must be able to work nights and weekends upon occasion.
- Bachelor's degree in related field; and
- Experience working with artists and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
