*Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) is committed to the delivery of humane and responsive animal care and control services to and for the residents and animals of Nashville-Davidson County. We have an opportunity at Nashville’s MACC to hire a Veterinarian. This is a critical position that provides medical care for and surgical procedures for animals in shelter’s custody.*

*As a member of the MACC team, they will assist the veterinarian with diagnostic procedures, administering medications, and record keeping associated with animal medical care.*
*In this position you will:* * Plan and implement a comprehensive animal health care program including population management, environmental sanitation, record-keeping, disease surveillance, physical examinations, vaccination, parasite control, disease testing, disease treatment, surgery, nutrition, outbreak response, and environmental enrichment for animals in the shelter and in foster homes, consistent with state, local, and agency policies, procedures, and guidelines. * Educate staff and volunteers regarding animal disease and behavior. * Ensure that each animal receives a physical examination upon intake, and that sick and injured animals are diagnosed, and treatment is prescribed. * Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries and additional surgeries as necessary, including but not limited to enucleations, exploratory, wound repair, tumor removal with biopsy, dentals, amputations, etc. * Provide emergency medical care as needed, including but not limited to IV catheter placement, emergency surgery, transfusions, etc. * Monitor the health of animals in the shelter (in collaboration with the shelter staff), performs diagnostic procedures, and provides appropriate and timely treatment when necessary. * Provide leadership, direction, guidance and training for veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and other shelter staff, including training and oversight in sedation and euthanasia.

*What we need from you: *
· *Hold an Doctorate of Veterinary medicine degree from an accredited university.*
· *Active Tennessee license to practice veterinary medicine.*
· *Must possess (or obtain within sixty days of employment) and must thereafter maintain DEA controlled substances registration to administer, prescribe and dispense controlled substances. *
· *Valid class “D” driver’s license.*
· *Must receive pre-exposure rabies vaccinations.*
