LMR Technical Group (LMR) is seeking a Loading Dock Management.


Location: Bethesda, MD


Job Description:

The Loading Dock Management will support of the overall functions of the Associate Director of Management and Operations, Vaccine Research Center (VRC), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sorts, counts, packages, labels, insures and logs all shipping and receiving inventory.
    • Sort packages/equipment and deliver to designated office, laboratory or section.
    • Sort, count, package, label, insure and/or log inventory which is shipped or received.
  • Reviews shipping manifest, inspects packages, and verifies quantities received against invoices, packing slip and purchase orders.
    • Review shipping manifest; inspect packages for damages, overages or shortages; verify the quantities received against invoices, packing slips and/or purchase orders.
  • Inspects shipments for damages and defects, records damages and notifies appropriate purchasing personnel.
    • Work with staff to remove all incoming shipments of equipment and packages from the loading dock to the proper staging and storage area.
    • Operate commonly used equipment, inspecting for proper operation and performs minor maintenance, updating staff on any equipment problems or damages, and preparing instruments, linens and other necessary lab equipment for use.
    • Operate government vehicle in transporting goods to and from NIH.
  • Assists primary shipping and receiving clerk(s) in the receiving and delivery of all incoming and outgoing shipments in
    accordance with all appropriate guidelines and procedures and enters supply items into inventory system.
    • Collect receiving/packing slips and tracking supply orders; coordinating with facility manager on daily activities.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly shipping and receiving work area.
    • Process biohazardous trash according to established procedures, either by placement in boxes for disposal as medical pathological waste (MPW) or discard as general laboratory waste once decontaminated.
    • Process dirty laboratory items according to standard procedures.
    • Refill liquid nitrogen tanks from bulk storage and the regular replacement of empty tanks as needed/required.
  • Deliverables
    • Work products and documents related to operating commonly used equipment, inspecting for proper operation and performs minor maintenance, updating staff on any equipment problems or damages, and preparing instruments, linens and other necessary lab equipment for use. - Ad-Hoc
    • Work products and documents related to the operating government vehicle in transporting goods to and from NIH. -

    • Work products and documents related to processing dirty laboratory items according to standard procedures. - Ad-Hoc
    • Work products and documents related to refilling liquid nitrogen tanks from bulk storage and the regular replacement of empty tanks. - Ad-Hoc
    • Work products and documents related to the decontaminating biohazardous trash according to established procedures. - Ad-Hoc
    • Work products and documents relating to collecting receiving/packing slips and tracking supply orders; coordinating with facility manager on daily activities. - Ad-Hoc
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 - 2 years of related experience including experience in shipping and receiving or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to respond to work request tickets in a timely manner.
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds, push or pull up to 45 pounds, reach above shoulder level, stand or walk more than 25 of 30 minutes, bend repeatedly, use both hands, and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior experience working with the National Institute of Health (NIH).
