Responsibilities
The Virtualization Systems Engineer will plan, design, implement, and maintain information systems based on Microsoft and other vendor technologies. Cooperates extensively with other members of the IT organization to deliver comprehensive IT services based on these technologies. Required areas of expertise include Exchange-based email, Active Directory, SQL Server, security, server monitoring, and system architecture. The Virtualization Systems Engineer regularly undertakes highly complex projects requiring specialized technical knowledge and new technologies to meet a broad spectrum of business needs. Involved in design, implementation, and maintenance of the current large-scale physical and virtual consolidated infrastructures as well as with the design, test and implementation of future technologies within virtual space. Support VMware, specifically ESX VSphere 6,7 to monitor cluster performance, optimize the server environment, diagnose and resolve production issues amongst three Data Centers and over 1000 servers. Perform ESX host and virtual machine migration between development, integration, and production environments and across Datacenters. Create and deploy VMs within VMware environment from scratch, also design VMware cluster for business critical applications. Involved in live migration of virtual machines using vMotion and Storage vMotion. Understand and effectively execute role within a framework of IT governance and Enterprise Architecture standards. Perform performance metrics, workload status update. Involved in troubleshooting ESX host issues within VMware. Acts as a resource for direction, training and guidance for less experienced staff. Develops and defines policies, procedures, and standards. Contribute to the development of methodologies, approaches, models, tools and techniques. Develop and maintain an understanding of MMC business activities and be able to communicate how the assigned architecture area relates to business activities. Comprehend the impacts of tactical and long-term activities (both business and IT) and their inter-relationships, issues and benefits. Proficient in analyzing topics within and related to the assigned architecture area, analyzing issues and impacts accurately, and communicating effectively.
Requirements
Education and Work Experience: Must possess a high school diploma or GED. 5-7 years of technical experience with installation, upgrades and maintenance of various server and network support systems preferred. Experience in troubleshooting DRS cluster error with shares, pools, and limits. Experience in configuring distributed and standard switches. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Possess high degree of technical expertise in Microsoft server, desktop and mobile device technologies (such as Windows Server, Windows Desktop, Windows Mobile and MS Office), messaging technologies (such as MS Exchange), infrastructure hardware (servers, SAN, switches), as well as a deep understanding of related security technologies. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public. Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees. Demonstrate progressive experience conceptualizing, building, and deploying systems and automation technologies for a large body of Windows servers and Windows PC clients. Must be able to follow and interpret standards and guidelines, as well as evolve and adapt standards and guidelines so as to improve the quality of the overall architecture. Supports IT Compliance activities including responding to requests related to quarterly and annual corporate audits. Follows proper Change Management and documentation procedures as described within Mercy Policies and Procedures. Demonstrate acute competence in identifying and addressing IT issues and working toward consensus solutions. Must work effectively with others in a highly collaborative work environment. Must effectively work with various technical and management levels as well as with business personnel at any level. Will have high degree of interaction with multiple Project teams to plan, design, and coordinate implementation of all infrastructure solutions. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. #ESJDec24
