Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to maintain the cleanliness and up-keep of all facilities and buildings. This is accomplished by daily facility cleaning; washing streets and sidewalks; mopping floors; cleaning bathrooms; vacuuming floors; picking up trash and debris; removing snow, and ensuring that all duties are performed in a timely and effective manner. Other duties included laying and buffing floors; repairing vents; removing poles; performing vehicle maintenance; assisting with supply distribution; hanging signs; pouring cement; and performing any other duties as needed.
Essential Functions
Performs general cleaning of facilities by maintaining floors pertaining to sweeping, wet moping, vacuuming, stripping and waxing maintenance, and dry moping; cleaning and vacuuming floor mats; cleaning restrooms by swabbing toilets and urinals; wiping down and disinfecting sinks and toilet/urinal surfaces; stocking toilet paper and paper towels; wiping down patricians, toilet paper and paper towel dispensers; washing windows; and dusting pertaining to ceiling fan blades, chair rails and ledges, A.C. units, countertops, appliances, air duct fixtures and registers.
Deals with trash and recyclables by performing general litter pickup in facilities; emptying/removing trash bags and recyclables from receptacles; picking up trash from exteriors of facilities and adjacent parks; and disposing of trash and recyclables to park maintenance facility.
Assists with special events and recreation programs by setting up table and chairs for recreation programs and sporting events; tearing down items from recreation programs and sporting events after the program has ended; placing bleachers, extra trash cans, and recyclable dispenser distribution in facilities; performing special gym floor cleanings and maintenance; assisting with cleaning public restrooms; and if needed, performing cleaning tasks during the event.
Maintains janitorial closets by distributing supplies to facilities; keeping track of inventory supplies at facilities; performing daily check of fluids, documentary usage, and repairs; and performing general maintenance of vacuum cleaner and other equipment pertaining to cleaning.
Performs vehicle and equipment maintenance by keeping city vehicles clean inside and out; performing daily checkups of fluids and documenting usage and repairs; and performing general maintenance of vacuum cleaner and other equipment pertaining to cleaning.
Cleans hallways and stairwells by dusting and wiping handrails; dusting ledges and window sills; wiping windows and pictures on walls; and removing spider webs and dust bunnies.
Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience
Valid Pennsylvania Class C Drivers License
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Over six months and including one year.
All persons who become employed by the City on or after the effective date of this section (May 19, 2022) shall be or become a resident of York County, or any County contiguous to York County (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Hartford, Baltimore, and Carrol Counties), within six (6) months from the date the employee achieves permanent employment status.
Due to the Custodian position being assigned to the Police Department, this offer is contingent upon successful passing the Personal History Statement Background check, which includes being fingerprinted and a Computerized Voice Analysis (CVSA), a drug screen and providing a Pennsylvania Child Abuse clearance Certificate that states "No Record Exists"
Note: Child Abuse History Clearance must be dated within one year from the date of application and must show that "no record exists".
