Physical Requirements: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, where parts of systems are in hard to reach places. Considerable lifting of heavy objects up to 50 pounds is required. Assistance is usually available for the handling of heavier material and equipment. Heavy exertion is required at frequent intervals. Incumbent must be capable of working inside and outside in excessive heat, cold, noise, confined areas, and on intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces. Incumbent may receive minor cuts or abrasions while performing these duties. Work can also require long periods of standing or sitting depending on the work scheduled by the Maintenance and Repair Supervisor and/or FMS.
WORK CONDITIONS
The working conditions vary with the environment. It may be inside or outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, greasy, and may be in inclement weather. The incumbent is continually exposed to the open flame of torches used to cut, braze, and solder pipe. The incumbent may be assigned to work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and /or chemical agents are present. The incumbent will be exposed to raw sewage of a hospital that does carrying every disease of the patients it serves. To ensure employee safety and health, personnel protection programs are maintained. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personal protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the incumbent may be required to take medical examinations to assess his/her medical
qualification for duty.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. The screen out for this position is the ability to perform the duties of a Plumber without more than normal supervision. These duties include: Inspects plumbing and pipefitting systems; inspects, tests, troubleshoots and performs routine maintenance and repairs domestic water, sewer, medical gas and medical vacuum systems required by NFPA 499, Standard for Healthcare facilities; inspects, tests, troubleshoots and routine maintenance of backflow prevention devices. Certification Requirement: Applicant must be ASSE 6040 certified within 6 months of hire date with the State of Oregon. Incumbent must be State of Oregon certified Backflow Assembly Tester within 6 months of hire date. Certifications must be maintained at all times.

Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
- The incumbent performs a full range of duties at the Journeyman level. Duties include installation, modification, and maintenance/repair of all plumbing and piping systems.
- This includes work both inside and outside of buildings (including underground), and all equipment fixtures and fittings served by these systems.
- The incumbent will be working from building plans, blueprints, sketches, and work orders. He/she will be required to plan, lay out, and fabricate plumbing and piping systems, modify systems, and remove devices and systems.
- The incumbent installs gauges, traps, thermostats, backflow preventing units, and other plumbing related devices.
- The incumbent will inspect plumbing and pipefitting systems installed, updated, or replaced by outside vendors/contractors at the Roseburg VA Facility in support of FMS Management, Engineering Technicians, and Project Managers to ensure no code violation, insufficient piping system, or substandard installation remains.
- The incumbent will supervise contracted vendor fabrication and installation of domestic plumbing and high-pressure/high-purity pipe systems as required by FMS project designs.
- Troubleshoots/tests various medical gas systems, fire suppression, plumbing systems and equipment including backflow prevention devices such as reduced pressure principle devices, double check devices, atmospheric vacuum breakers, and other cross connection devices.
- Incumbent performs preventive maintenance and repairs to campus main utility distribution systems to include steam/condensate piping and valves, domestic water, fire hydrants, building fire department connections, fire sprinkler, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and campus irrigation water systems.
- Performs replacement and reseating of faucet washers, flush valves; repairs segments of piping by replacement due to wear and tear, unplugs major sewage stoppages, repacks valves, repairs steam traps, pressure regulators, and replaces diaphragms in control valves.
- Incumbent performs maintenance and repair to personal, fixed and portable hospital equipment, such as steam sterilizers, autoclaves, cart washers, reverse osmosis demineralizers (RODI), eyewash/shower stations, and backflow preventers.
- Responsible for kitchen equipment of various types: dishwashers, food carts, steam pressure cookers, steam pots, steam traps, sculleries, garbage disposals, grease traps, gas griddles and bake ovens.
- Installs, maintains and repairs steam equipment throughout the hospital repairs laundry and dietetic equipment which includes steam mains from boiler house, steam cookers, steam tables, pressure cookers, hot water heaters, radiators, steam traps, condense and steam distribution system; repairs and replaces defective gas and air lines; installs and replaces pipe covering.
- Maintenance and repairs of above equipment consist of repairing or replacing failed, worn or damaged parts such as: temperature control thermostats, relays, starters, ignitors, pilots, solenoid and gas valves, control valves, mixing valves, pressure regulators and pressure relief valves, air and water filtration, and mechanical gears/chains, and replacing equipment door/valve gaskets.
