Job Summary :
A
CVICU Registered Nurse (RN)
provides specialized care to critically ill patients recovering from cardiovascular surgeries, including open-heart surgery, coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve replacements, and other cardiac-related procedures. CVICU RNs play a critical role in monitoring and managing patients' cardiovascular status, providing advanced nursing care, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes for patients with complex cardiac conditions.
Key Responsibilities :
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for critically ill patients recovering from cardiac surgical procedures, including post-operative care. Monitor and manage patients' hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, and vital signs using advanced monitoring equipment. Administer medications, including vasoactive medications, inotropes, and sedatives, to maintain hemodynamic stability. Provide post-surgical care, including wound care, chest tube management, and monitoring for complications such as arrhythmias, heart failure, or infections. Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans. Educate patients and their families on post-operative care, medications, and discharge planning. Recognize and respond to life-threatening situations, initiating interventions such as resuscitation or advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). Manage mechanical cardiac support devices, such as intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), ventricular assist devices (VADs), and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Document patient care, treatments, and progress accurately, ensuring compliance with clinical standards and regulatory requirements. Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, staff development, and educational activities related to critical care and cardiac care. Provide emotional support to patients and their families during the critical post-operative phase, addressing questions and concerns. Qualifications :
Education : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted. Licensure : Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
Certification : Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required. Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Cardiac Surgery certification preferred.
Experience : Prior experience in intensive care, cardiac care, or CVICU
