Job Description
The Accounting Manager will oversee and elevate the accounting functions of Winslow Partners, a premier, high-end neighborhood bistro. As the key leader on our management team, this role is instrumental in driving our strategic initiatives to enhance and automate financial processes, ensuring our accounting infrastructure aligns with the brand’s growth and technological advancements. This position will collaborate closely with ownership and management, contributing financial insights to support informed, impactful decisions.
Essential Functions
- Financial Close & Reporting: Lead period-end closing activities, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses for areas such as cash management, inventory, fixed assets, prepaids, store-related expenses, lease accounting (), and sales.
- Inventory Accounting: Oversee inventory accounting processes, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting inventory including invoice entry and review as well as review of TvA reports and inventory counts.
- Financial Analysis: Deliver insights on monthly financial performance through comprehensive P&L reviews with senior management. Build and manage a rolling 13 week detailed budget.
- Tax & Compliance: Coordinate year-end and quarterly compliance/tax audits and prepare unit reporting to support accurate financial analysis. Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP standards and all local, state and federal restaurant tax and legal compliance.
- Team Development: Train and lead a high-performing management team. Establish and manage team goals aligned with company objectives. Hold accountable entire team to budget.
- Process Improvement: Drive efficiency by identifying and implementing accounting and operational policies to minimize manual processes, streamline workflows, and strengthen compliance.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with IT and other departments to enhance data accuracy and integration. Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to support seamless data exchange.
- Change Management: Lead change initiatives related to system upgrades and process improvements, working closely with IT and other stakeholders.
- Internal Controls: Continuously evaluate and enhance internal controls to adapt to evolving systems and business needs.
Major Responsibilities / Specific Requirements
- Must be a Restaurant 365 expert and be able to train the entire team.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills suitable for all organizational levels.
- Proven analytical skills with an aptitude for identifying and solving complex financial issues.
- Thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP and strong foundational accounting knowledge.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, with excellent documentation, data analysis, and multi-tasking abilities.
- Skilled in leading a team in a fast-paced, high-volume setting with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics NAV Restaurant 365, and Aloha preferred).
- Strong alignment with Winslow’s values, mission, and dedication to excellence.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA certification preferred.
- A minimum of four years of experience in accounting, ideally within the restaurant or retail sectors.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Expert in Restaurant 365 systems
- Experience in lease and sales tax accounting is preferred.
