My client is a family-owned real estate developer in the residential space regarded as specialists in South Florida's sought-after waterfront market. Having assembled an outstanding portfolio of quality properties, they have an excellent resputation. They are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Controller to join our finance team and provide critical oversight of all accounting functions related to our real estate development projects.
Description
- Real Estate Development Accounting: Oversee accounting operations for real estate development projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for multiple properties or developments.
- Project Costing & Analysis: Track and report on development costs, including construction, land acquisition, financing, and other project-specific expenditures. Ensure proper cost allocation, including soft and hard costs.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements, monthly reports, and project financial summaries for senior management and stakeholders. Ensure accurate consolidation of financial data for reporting purposes.
- Cash Flow Management: Oversee cash flow management for ongoing development projects, ensuring that working capital requirements are met and adequate funding is in place for each phase of the project.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the preparation of annual budgets for real estate development projects and create detailed forecasts for construction and operational phases.
- Tax Compliance & Regulatory Reporting: Ensure compliance with all relevant real estate development accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements. Oversee tax reporting for development activities.
- Audit & Internal Controls: Work closely with external auditors to ensure smooth audit processes. Maintain and enforce internal controls to ensure financial integrity.
- Collaboration with Development Teams: Collaborate with project managers and other departments to provide financial insights and ensure that development projects remain on track financially.
Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of accounting experience in real estate development, with at least 5 years in a managerial or senior controller role.
- In-depth knowledge of real estate development accounting, including cost accounting, construction accounting, and financial reporting for real estate projects.
- Strong proficiency in real estate development software and ERP systems (e.g., Yardi, Sage, Timberline).
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles as they relate to real estate development.
- Proven experience in managing project budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flows.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial data and analysis to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide a team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
